Types of Bands

A concert band is a performing ensemble which consists of several members of the woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. A concert band is also known as a symphonic band. A concert band is distinguished and includes wind compostions, light music, and poplular tunes.

A marching band is an ensemble of instrumental musicians that generally perform outdoors for purposes of entertainmnet and competition. This form of band includes brass, woodwinds, and percussion instruments. Marching bands wear uniforms which displays a schools name on tne uniform and are adorned with other articles such as gloves and/or capes. Marching bands always perform in parades and many perform field shows and competitions. March bands can range in size, function, and by the style of show they perform.



Terms

Band - An instrumental ensemble, usually made up of wind and percussion instruments and no string instruments.
Triplet- A group of three notes performed in the time of two of the same kind.
Winter Concert- A date in December when the band performs.
Spring Concert- A date in May when the band performs.
Major - The designation for certain intervals and scales. A key based on a major scale is called a major key. The pattern for the major scale is:
